What patterns do you keep finding yourself in?

Perhaps there are certain situations that seem to repeat themselves.

Relationships that begin differently but somehow arrive at the same place.

Reactions you understand intellectually but still find difficult to change.

Ways of adapting, protecting yourself, seeking recognition or withdrawing that once helped you — but may now also limit you.

Transactional Analysis offers a framework for becoming curious about these patterns: where they may have begun, how they continue to operate and what becomes possible when we start noticing them.

During the Foundation Course, you will explore questions such as

  • 01What are the recurring patterns in my life story?
  • 02What unconscious traps or decisions might I keep returning to?
  • 03What gives me psychological strength?
  • 04What pulls me down in my everyday life?
  • 05How do my early experiences continue to shape my relationships today?

These questions form the starting point of the Foundation journey.

More than learning a psychological theory

The Foundation Course is not simply a series of lectures about Transactional Analysis. You will learn TA concepts theoretically while also being invited to notice how they appear in your inner world, relationships and interactions with others.

The learning happens through four interconnected processes:

01

Theoretical understanding

Develop a strong grounding in the core concepts and frameworks of Transactional Analysis.

02

Experiential learning

Explore psychological concepts through exercises and experiences, rather than understanding them only intellectually.

03

Self-reflection

Apply what you are learning to your own experiences, relationships and recurring patterns.

04

Group process

Use what emerges in the here-and-now of the group as another source of learning.

What you will explore

The course unfolds across 10 modules

Explore contact as a foundation for relationships and understand the philosophical basis of contracting within Transactional Analysis. This module also introduces group processes and ethics within the learning environment.

The group is part of the learning

We learn about ourselves in relationships

Many of the patterns explored through Transactional Analysis were formed in relationships and continue to appear in relationships. For this reason, the group itself becomes an important part of the Foundation experience.

Moments of connection, discomfort, vulnerability, difference, withdrawal or closeness can become opportunities to notice what is happening within us and between us.

What emerges in the here-and-now of the group can be explored alongside experiences from the then-and-there of our lives.

Rather than studying human behaviour only from a distance, the course creates space to experience and understand psychological and relational processes as they unfold.

Personal therapy alongside the course

Learning TA also means being willing to look inward

Participants are expected to engage in personal therapy alongside the programme.

There is a minimum requirement of 15 hours of personal therapy for all participants.

Participants are free to choose a therapist outside the educational setting.

Psychological ideas are not simply concepts we learn to apply to other people. They also invite us to become more curious about ourselves.
